The general retirement age in Latvia has been raised to 65 years this year, while the minimum length of work required to receive a pension has been raised to 20 years.

In 2024, the right to an old-age pension rested with those who were 64 years and nine months old if the duration of social insurance contributions was no less than 15 years long.

Latvia’s government has been gradually raising the retirement age since 2014, increasing it by three months each year until 2025, when it reaches 65.

This means that the gradual increase in the retirement age will not continue after this year.
