Full back Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly the next man to leave Bayer Leverkusen as he has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League champions Liverpool.
Kicker sports magazine and the Bild paper said on Tuesday that Netherlands international Frimpong would “almost certainly leave” in summer after four years at Leverkusen.
Kicker said only “final details” needed to be resolved and that Frimpong has a release clause in his contract until 2028 allowing him to leave for around €40 million ($44.5 million).
Frimpong, 24, could take the place of Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold at Arne Slot’s Reds where he is to sign until 2030.
He has scored 30 goals in 190 matches for Leverkusen since arriving in 2021 from Celtic.
Leverkusen, who won an unbeaten Bundesliga and German Cup double last season and will finish second in the league this term, are also losing centre back Jonathan Tah and coach Xabi Alonso.
German international Tah did not renew his contract after 10 years. Alonso is leaving one year before the end of his deal, almost certainly for Real Madrid where he played in the past.
The future of Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz is also not clear despite a contract until 2027. Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich reportedly want him, but Leverkusen are said to want €150 for the German international.
