Danish company to build battery storage park in Lithuania

The Danish renewable energy company European Energy has announced plans to build a 12-megawatt (MW) battery storage facility near the northwestern Lithuanian town of Telšiai and to link it to the grid by mid-2026.

“We are very pleased about this development in Lithuania and our venture into a new areas of business,” said Tadeusas Konkovskis, vice-president and Lithuanian country manager for European Energy, in a news release.

“This battery project will allow us to provide more renewable solutions in the region, thus enhancing the country’s energy independence,” he added.

European Energy said that it has secured a state subsidy for the battery project, which will have a storage capacity of 48 MWh. Construction is set to begin during the last quarter of 2025.

“Beyond Lithuania, the company has announced a battery project in Poland and is exploring similar initiatives in other European countries where energy storage is becoming increasingly vital so as to balance out the intermittent nature of renewable energy supply and demand,” it declared.
