EasyStaff is a payment intermediary company that was set up in Lithuania by two Russian nationals, and last year it paid more than EUR 50 million for IT services from Russia, according to a report from an investigative journalism team at public broadcaster LRT.

One shareholder at the company told the media that it helps Russian-speaking businesses to operate in the global market. It enables companies to pay freelancers around the world, a significant number of whom are IT specialists who are based in Russia.

Experts warn that such activities are risky given the current geopolitical climate, because they potentially might mean an evasion of sanctions against Russia. A spokesperson for EasyStaff said that two law firms advised it that sanctions would not be violated in this case.

LRT reported that the relevant oversight authorities were either unaware of the company’s operations, or did not identify any threats therein.
