The first ever broad-based global security report, commissioned by international private security services group G4S, reveals that according to security company executives, Estonia has the lowest risk of social and economic unrest.
Nearly 2,000 security managers from 30 countries, including security managers from major companies operating in Estonia, gave their input to the survey.
Based on the findings of the study, it can be said that Estonia is at the forefront of Europe in many areas. Of the European countries surveyed, security managers in Estonia are least concerned about social and economic unrest, and the scores offered in the Estonian responses are also significantly lower than the global average.
On average, 35 percent of security managers worldwide are concerned about social unrest, compared with just 18 percent in Estonia. Economic unrest is named as a concern by 47 percent of security managers globally on the average, compared with 31 percent in Estonia.
Only 21 percent of respondents from Estonia predict a significant increase in the budget of their manned security — the lowest ratio for all the European countries surveyed and far below the global and European averages, which are 46 and 41 percent, respectively.
Thirty-five percent of security executives in Estonia had experienced an energy supply disruption in the past 12 months, making it the biggest security threat in Estonia. The ratio is also higher than in any other EU country, the global and EU averages being 30 and 26 percent, respectively.
Priit Sarapuu, CEO of G4S Estonia, said in his comments on the findings of the survey that the profession of a security guard has changed a lot over the years, and so have the requirements for personnel. Of security managers, 85 percent believe that a security guard’s communication skills are more important than their physical abilities today. In addition, education, good technological knowledge and professional experience are considered extremely important.
