Latvia’s score on the Corruption Perceptions Index worsens

In the latest Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) published by the international anti-corruption organization Transparency International (TI), Latvia’s score has worsened over the past year, meaning the country has failed to achieve the target set in the National Development Plan 2021-2027 (NDP), Transparency International Latvia (Delna) informed LETA.

Latvia’s 2024 CPI score has dropped by one point to 59, returning to the level recorded in 2021 and 2022. Over the past decade, Latvia’s score has fluctuated between 55 and 60, without demonstrating consistent long-term growth.

According to Delna, Latvia’s latest score clearly indicates that it has failed to meet the NDP target of a CPI score of 64 in 2024, and it is highly doubtful that it will reach the 2027 target of 67.

Latvia is the only Baltic country where the score has declined this year. Analyzing long-term trends, both Estonia and Lithuania exhibit more stable growth in their CPI scores compared to Latvia. Estonia has maintained its score of 76, while Lithuania has risen by two points from the previous year to 63, its highest score to date.

In 2024, the average CPI score for the European Union and Western Europe is 64, while the OECD average is 65, one point lower than the previous year, Delna noted.

Latvia’s CPI score was 60 in 2023, 59 in 2022 and 2021, 57 in 2020, 56 in 2019, 58 in 2018 and 2017, and lower in earlier years.
