The Criminal Police Division for the Investigation of Serious Crimes of the Kaunas County Police Headquarters (Kaunas County PHQ) is searching for Benas Mikutavičius (born 1996), who is suspected of committing a serious crime. Lithuanian police announced the search already yesterday, and this morning the spokesperson for the police department, Ramūnas Matonis, confirmed that the suspect has still not been found. A large number of police units across Lithuania are involved in the search effort.
On 4 December, at 13:02, police received a report that the body of a woman (born 2003) had been found on V. Krėvės Avenue in Kaunas with a stab wound. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under Article 129 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania (murder), which carries a penalty of seven to fifteen years of imprisonment.
According to the Lithuanian media outlet LRT, later that same evening, police received a second call from the same Kaunas district. In an apartment on Pramonės Avenue, officers discovered the body of another woman (born 2001), also showing clear signs of violent death.
Law enforcement officials are urging the public not to attempt to detain the individual themselves, as he may be extremely dangerous. Anyone who knows the man’s whereabouts, has seen him, or can provide any relevant information is asked to immediately contact the police by calling the emergency number 112.
The pre-trial investigation is being organized and supervised by prosecutors from the 1st Criminal Prosecution Division of the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
