A one-day strike by workers at 13 airports in Germany led to the cancellation of several flights from Lithuania on Monday.
Air Baltic cancelled its Vilnius flight to and from Hamburg on Sunday, and Ryanair did the same with a flight from Berlin to Vilnius and a return flight between the Lithuanian capital city and Frankfurt on Monday. This was reported by a spokeswoman for Lithuanian Airports, Neringa Ciukstiene.
Ryanair flights to Berlin and Cologne from Kaunas were also cancelled on Monday. The airport’s website also reported that a Ryanair flight from Berlin that was due to land at 3:30 PM did not arrive.
“We haven’t received any information about cancellations tomorrow,” Ciukstiene told BNS on Monday. “Everything is running to plan right now, and airlines haven’t informed us of any further cancellations.”
The 24-hours strike began at midnight on Sunday and involved public sector airport workers, as well as ground service and security staff. The German airport association ADF said that more than 3,500 flights were affected by the labour action, thus impacting some 560,000 passengers.
