Forty-one percent of people in the Baltic states believe that now is the best time to buy a home, Luminor Bank informed LETA, citing data from a survey conducted by the bank.

Twenty-one percent of respondents said it is always the right time to buy a home if it is necessary, while 16 percent believe that now is a good time because housing prices will only continue to rise in the future.

Similar trends can be observed across the Baltic countries. In Estonia, 51 percent of people consider now the right time to buy a home, while in Lithuania the figure is 57 percent. At the same time, residents of Estonia and Lithuania are more likely than those in Latvia to believe that it is not the best time to buy. However, 30 percent of respondents in Estonia and 32 percent in Lithuania think that if you need a home, it makes sense to buy one at any time.

In all three Baltic states, a significant share of the population is currently postponing a home purchase for various reasons. In Latvia this share is 38 percent, in Estonia 35 percent, and in Lithuania 28 percent. The main reason cited by respondents is the inability to afford a home at the moment. This applies to 25 percent of people in Latvia, 22 percent in Estonia, and 16 percent in Lithuania.

The amount of mortgage loans issued by Luminor Bank in Latvia increased by 63 percent in the first half of this year, while the number of applications rose by more than half. The average loan amount reached EUR 100,000.

The Luminor Bank survey was conducted in September 2025 in cooperation with the research agency Norstat, polling a total of 3,011 respondents in the Baltics aged 18 to 59.
