TikTok users in Germany will be able to shop via the video app from Monday, the company has announced.
While the mobile app has been available in Germany for a long time, the shopping functions are only coming online next week.
TikTok is one of the largest social media platforms and belongs to the Bytedance Group, which has its headquarters in China.
Users can create and share short videos – and will soon be able to buy products that are presented in other people’s videos or livestreams.
The purchase process is integrated into the app, with a user’s payment details stored so there is no need to link to the provider’s shop.
Max Burianek, who is in charge of the German TikTok shop, says that purchasing via the app will be “a seamless experience.”
The video and live formats on TikTok “offer the opportunity to convey much more information than a static product page can,” he said.
According to its own figures, TikTok has about 24.2 million monthly users in Germany.
In countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Spain, the app has already been used for shopping for some time. The TikTok shop is also set to launch in France and Italy in the coming week.
