The Lithuanian branch of Siemens Mobility will upgrade the traffic control system along the Siauliai-Klaipeda rail branch for EUR 10 million. That is a Finnish-based company that is owned by the German technology group Siemens.
The aim of the company is to adapt the system’s equipment to an electrified railway under its contact with LTG Infra, which is the infrastructure arm of Lithuanian Railways (LTG), the company announced on Monday.
LTG infra CEO Vytis Zalimas says that this is a critical system upgrade which will ensure the necessary level of safety and functionality.
“The electrification of the Vilnius-Klaipeda segment necessitates sophisticated technical solutions to ensure the safe and efficient operation of trains along the electrified section,” he adds.
LTG says that the upgrade system will cut the risk of accidents and incidents and harmonise the amount of time that is needed to transmit signals to close level crossings.
