Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has said that he is sure that the synchronisation of Baltic electricity grids with the Western European system will proceed smoothly this weekend, adding that most consumers won’t even notice the transition.
“I want to reassure everyone that everything has been considered, and all scenarios have been accounted for,” President Nauseda told reporters in Elektrenai on Thursday. “I have no doubt that the synchronisation process will be smooth. People won’t notice it in terms of their power bills or any inconvenience. We’ll be ready – Lithuania and the other Baltic States, to manage the key parameters of the power system ourselves, including frequency and voltage.”
The president added that the link to the Western European grid will allow for the development of new capacities in the area of renewable energy, thus making Lithuania more attractive to investors in the sector.
“We’ll no longer be dependent on the aggressor state, and we will have full control over our own energy system,” the president added.
Nauseda also said that the Lithuanian power plant at Elektrenai will continue to play a key backup role if there are any problems with international connections.
