Lidl announces working hours during holidays in Estonia

Lidl stores in Estonia will be open for a shorter period of time on December 24 and closed entirely on January 1 of next year, the low-cost retailer announced on Wednesday.

Lidl stores will be open from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM on December 24, and they will open an hour later at 9:00 AM on December 25, staying open until 9:00 PM. As of December 26, all Lidl stores in Estonia will return to their normal working hours from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

On New Year’s Eve, however, Lidl shops will close at 8:00 PM and remain closed throughout the first day of the new year. By adjusting its hours and giving its staff a full day off on January 1, Lidl Estonia is prioritising the health and well-being of its employees. The company said that this will allow staff to enjoy the Christmas and New Year’s holidays more fully.

“The mental and physical well-being of our employees is one of our top priorities, which is why, for the second year in a row, we are allowing them to spend the holidays with family and friends,” says Maciej Urbanski, CEO of Lidl Estonia. “By doing this, we show that we care about the well-being of our employees and that each and every one of them is important for our company. We hope that our customers understand this, and we’re pleased that other retailers have been inspired by us.”

Lidl launched its network of stores in Estonia on March 3, 2022, when it simultaneously opened eight stores in Tallinn, Tartu, Narva and Pärnu. Lidl currently has 14 shops in seven towns and cities all across the country.
