LIAA opens an Innovation and Technology Representative Office in Switzerland

The Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) has opened a representative office in Geneva, Switzerland, whose task will be to provide a link between Latvian entrepreneurs involved in the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and scientific institutions, LETA was informed by LIAA representatives.

The new representative office will operate in line with Latvia’s CERN strategy.

Iveta Strupkaja, Acting Director of LIAA, points out that Switzerland is a country with a high level of development in the field of innovation and technology, therefore, when planning the network of LIAA representative offices, Switzerland has been put forward as one of the priorities.

“Latvia’s accession to CERN was the most important factor, as we are now moving towards full membership and we want to strengthen CERN’s cooperation with Latvian companies and scientific institutions,” says Strupkaja.

Alise Pika-Ozola, Head of the Latvian Representation in Switzerland, says her role will be “to be a bridge between CERN and Latvian businesses”.

CERN offers Latvian companies the opportunity to participate in the organization’s procurement processes, as well as to establish new collaborations in the field of technology transfer between companies and scientific organizations from different countries in the field of research and development.
