In May 2025, Latvia’s inflation rate was above the European Union (EU) average, according to data released by Eurostat on Wednesday.
Latvia’s annual inflation stood at 3.7 percent in May. The lowest inflation rates were recorded in Cyprus (0.4 percent), France (0.6 percent), Ireland (1.4 percent), Denmark (1.5 percent), and both Italy and Portugal (1.7 percent each).
The highest inflation rates were observed in Romania (5.4 percent), Estonia (4.6 percent), Hungary (4.5 percent), and both Slovakia and Croatia (4.3 percent each). Lithuania and Austria both recorded an inflation rate of 3 percent.
Consumer prices increased in all EU member states in May 2025.
Annual inflation averaged 2.2 percent in the EU and 1.9 percent in the euro area.
Compared to April 2025, consumer prices remained flat both in the EU and the euro area.
In Latvia, consumer prices were also largely unchanged compared to the previous month.
Eurostat uses the EU’s Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) as the benchmark for measuring inflation.
