Latvian tax agency discloses tax debt level

In early February 2025, tax debts in Latvia amounted to EUR 850.606 million, which was 0.7% more than a year before, the State Revenue Service (VID) has announced.

This total includes current and suspended debts, as well as debt with extended payment deadlines.

As of February 1, tax debts to the basic national budget stood at EUR 350.871 million, up 3% from the previous month. Tax debts to local budgets amounted to EUR 308.507 million (+0.3%), and overdue social security contributions totalled EUR 191.228 million – a drop of 2.4% as against the beginning of January 2025.

Debts with respect to which fines for late payment are being calculated represented 63.8% of the total amount, or EUR 542.455 million.

Debts worth EUR 1.188 million were recognised as uncollectable, with a majority accumulated by companies that have been declared insolvent.

Total tax debt at the beginning of 2025 stood at EUR 844.276 million.
