Estonian parlt approves agreement on double taxation avoidance with Qatar

The Estonian parliament adopted a bill on Wednesday concerning the ratification of an agreement to avoid double taxation and prevent tax evasion and hinder tax fraud between Estonia and Qatar as well as the associated protocol.

The agreement broadly follows the model convention of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). It prohibits the source country of income from taxing certain types of income, imposes a lower tax rate than is normally applied, or requires the country of residence to grant tax exemptions or deductions.

As of May, Estonia had valid double taxation avoidance treaties with 63 countries, aimed at fostering international investments.

The law was passed with 71 votes in favor.
