In a fiercely contested Round of 16 match at EuroBasket 2025, host nation Latvia saw their hopes dashed by Lithuania, falling 88-79 despite a monumental effort from Kristaps Porziņģis.
Porziņģis was nothing short of sensational – pouring in 34 points and hauling down 19 rebounds in what was one of the most dominant individual showings of the tournament. Nevertheless, Latvia couldn’t convert key opportunities, especially in the third quarter when Lithuania managed to establish a double-digit lead that Latvia never fully erased.
Lithuania’s success stemmed from depth and timely contributions. Arnas Velička’s 21 points, 12 assists and +15 plus-minus earned him Player of the Game honors.
Quarter-by-quarter breakdown (via RealGM/FIBA box score):
Latvia: Q1 18, Q2 19, Q3 17, Q4 25 – Total 79
Lithuania: Q1 28, Q2 19, Q3 19, Q4 22 – Total 88
