In an intensely fought final held in Riga, Germany claimed the EuroBasket 2025 title after defeating Turkey 88-83 in a close and dramatic championship match.

From the start, Turkey came into the game with momentum, having steamrolled past Greece in the semifinal. Germany, on the other hand, had just beaten Finland and carried confidence especially through their backcourt. Both teams entered the final undefeated at 8-0.

The game was tight throughout, with neither side managing to build a large, sustained lead. As the fourth quarter wound down, Germany held a narrow edge. In the final minute, with the score extremely close, Germany made the plays that mattered.

Alperen Şengün was Turkey’s standout. He poured in 28 points, and made significant contributions on both ends of the court. His performance kept Turkey in the game almost to the end.

On Germany’s side, Dennis Schröder played a crucial role, especially in the clutch moments. It was his turnaround jumper in the last moments that helped Germany pull ahead.

Throughout the game, Germany’s balance – efficient scoring, timely defense, fewer turnovers – helped them withstand runs from Turkey and respond when pressure was high.

With less than a minute remaining, Turkey was trailing by just a point or two. Şengün had a chance to turn the game with potential game-winning or tying shots but missed two key attempts – once at the rim and then a contested three. Meanwhile, Germany extended their lead via free throws after drawing fouls, sealing the win as Turkey couldn’t convert in the final possession.

This victory gives Germany their second EuroBasket championship title, their first since 1993. Like Germany, Turkey had never won the title before; this was Turkey’s first final appearance away from home in a EuroBasket.

Dennis Schröder was named the tournament MVP, reflecting his consistently high level across the tournament including the final.
