airBaltic launches search for new CEO

The Supervisory Board of Latvia’s flag carrier airBaltic has launched an international search for a new chief executive officer, LETA has learned at the company.

The task for the new CEO will be to lead airBaltic during its next phase of development, marked by growth and strategic preparation for the possibility of becoming a publicly listed company.

“airBaltic is currently at a crucial stage of development,” says the chairman of the Supervisory Board, Andrejs Martinovs. “The new leader will play a key role in continuing the company’s sustainable growth. We are looking for a leader with an international perspective, clear strategic thinking, and the ability to strengthen airBaltic as a modern and competitive European airline.”

The search process involves Latvian laws and Cabinet of Ministers regulations, which means that a special nomination committee was established so as to ensure the professional, objective and transparent assessment of potential candidates.

The new CEO will be appointed upon the recommendation of the nomination committee and a vote by the Supervisory Board. Until then, the airline will be managed by its current interim CEO, COO and Executive Board member Pauls Calitis.

The airline’s strategic direction remains unchanged.  It is expanding its fleet to 100 Airbus A220-300 aircraft by 2030 and focusing on a potential IPO once market conditions are favourable.
