More than EUR 60 million invested in Riga’s tram infrastructure

The Riga public transport company Rigas Satiksme has invested EUR 60.4 million during the past four years in the reconstruction and renovation of tram infrastructure in the city, the company has told the LETA news agency.

Of this amount, financing from the European Union’s Cohesion Fund represented EUR 40.2 million, while Rigas Satiksme provided the remaining EUR 20.2 million.

The infrastructure of tram routes No 7 and No 5 were adapted for low-floor trains. Five substations were renovated or rebuilt, and elevated tram platforms were installed at several locations in Riga.

The corner of Daugava Embankment and January 13 Street was reconstructed to improve traffic flows, not least in terms of tram movement.

Also during the same period, overhead wires were revamped along several sections of routes No 7 and No 1.
