Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, has died after being shot during a public event at Utah Valley University. The shooting took place on September 10, 2025, when Kirk was speaking on campus as part of his “American Comeback Tour.” Witnesses reported that a single gunshot was fired shortly after the event began, striking Kirk in the neck. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but died later that day from his injuries.

News of the shooting quickly drew reactions across the political spectrum. Utah Governor Spencer Cox condemned the attack as a “political assassination,” calling it a tragic day for the country. Former President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s death in a social media post, praising him as a leader who had deeply connected with America’s youth. Former President Barack Obama also issued a statement, denouncing the violence and stressing that such acts have no place in a democratic society.

Law enforcement has launched a large-scale investigation into the incident, with a manhunt underway for the suspected shooter. Several people were initially detained but later released after police determined they were not involved. Authorities have not yet disclosed details about the suspect’s identity or motive.

Kirk rose to prominence as a leading conservative activist, building Turning Point USA into a powerful organization on college campuses nationwide. Known for his outspoken advocacy on free speech, religious values, and conservative policies, he became a polarizing but influential voice in U.S. politics.

He is survived by his wife, Erika, and their two young children.
