Spain plans to join Riga-based NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence

The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday approved a memorandum of understanding on the Spanish Defense Ministry’s plan to join the Riga-based NATO Strategic Communication Centre of Excellence.

The Spanish Defense Ministry has expressed its intention to join the NATO Strategic Communication Centre of Excellence and delegate a representative to work at the Centre.

The NATO Strategic Communication Centre of Excellence was initially founded by Latvia, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and the United Kingdom, and in the following years was joined by the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Canada, Slovakia, Denmark, the United States and Hungary.

In order to enhance the strategic communication capabilities of NATO member states, NATO partner countries and NATO as an institution, the NATO Strategic Communication Centre of Excellence has been operating in Latvia since September 1, 2014 and has been accredited as an international military organization.
