The reconstruction of the Vanšu (Suspension) Bridge will cost EUR 69,802,998, according to information published in the Electronic Procurement System.

The municipality has selected the supplier association Vanšu Tilts as the winner of the tender for the reconstruction, design, and supervision of the Vanšu Bridge. The association includes Hanza Construction Group, Tilts, and the Baltic artificial structures design bureau Vektors T.

Riga Mayor Viesturs Kleinbergs (Progressives) pointed out that this time the offer is significantly more favourable.

“The new contract is worth EUR 69.8 million, while last year the only bid submitted was almost EUR 100 million, which is why the tender was cancelled,” the mayor noted.

He also stressed that, “after several negotiations with the Finance Ministry, the necessary funding has been secured to move forward with confidence and plan for construction in 2027.”

The total length of the Vanšu Bridge is 593.6 meters, and its main pylon reaches a height of 108.7 meters.

The project includes resurfacing the traffic lanes and constructing a shared pedestrian and cycling zone. The bridge railings will be restored to their previous height of 1.3 meters.

The cycle tracks on both sides of the bridge will be 2.5 meters wide and will be separated from the footpaths by a raised platform.

The project also foresees the replacement of the suspension cables. The total weight of the new cables will be 385.5 tons.

According to Firmas.lv, Hanza Construction Group had a turnover of EUR 37,861,377 in 2024 and a profit of EUR 9,404,114. The company is owned by Aleksejs Bakanovs.

Tilts recorded a turnover of EUR 54,115,683 last year and a profit of EUR 3,733,369. The company is owned by Artjoms and Sergejs Gridnevs.

The turnover of Vektors T, owned by Aleksandrs Varavs, was EUR 708,624 in 2024, with a profit of EUR 2,654.

As reported, two bidders applied for the tender to reconstruct the bridge.

The supplier association Vanšu Tilts submitted a bid of EUR 69,802,998.

Meanwhile, the association BBVA, which includes Baltijas Būve, Abora, the Latvian–Lithuanian joint venture Viadukts, and the general partnership 3A, offered to carry out the works for EUR 70,327,026.

The first tender for the bridge’s reconstruction, launched last year, was cancelled because only one bidder applied and its offer exceeded the Riga City Council’s financial capacity.

Following the outcome of the first tender, the requirements of the open tender regulations were revised and clarified to encourage greater interest from bidders and ensure stronger competition.

Riga has a total of 145 bridges, overpasses, and pedestrian tunnels, some of which are in need of repair.
