Poland has decided to postpone plans to reopen its border crossings with Belarus after Lithuania moved to close its own, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė said on Thursday.
“I spoke with the Polish prime minister by phone yesterday. It was a detailed and thorough conversation, and we agreed that Poland would delay the reopening of its borders,” Ruginienė told reporters during a visit to Latvia.
“This means we are coordinating our actions, and for now, the borders will remain closed on both the Polish and Lithuanian sides,” she said.
Ruginienė added that Lithuania had already received “initial reactions” from Belarus.
“I very much hope they will understand that we will not tolerate any hybrid attacks, and we will do everything necessary to manage threats and ensure the safety of our citizens,” the prime minister said.
