Estonian bus operators have questioned the state’s plan to purchase new gas-powered and electric buses, saying they already have sufficient vehicles, ERR.ee reports.

The Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture has launched a framework procurement for up to 10 electric buses and 30 gas-powered buses.

The initial purchase will include five electric buses and nine gas-powered buses.

Financed through proceeds from the sale of CO₂ emission allowances, the vehicles will be provided to operators serving public county routes.

Mart Raamat, a board member of bus operator Sebe and the Association of Estonian International Road Carriers, described the procurement as absurd and questioned why the state needs its own bus fleet.
