Lux Express to launch night-time bus service between Tartu, Riga

Estonian bus operator Lux Express is launching a night-time bus service between Tartu and Riga from May 1.

Every day, a bus departs from Tartu at 11:55 p.m., bringing passengers to the center of Riga in the early morning hours. The bus arrives at Riga Airport at 4:20 a.m., the company said in a press release.

According to Lux Express, the new departure provides convenient access to early morning flights from Riga Airport, serving more than 20 European destinations and offering connecting flights worldwide.

In addition to the night service starting May 1, Lux Express buses depart from Tartu to Riga every day at 8:15 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. From Riga, it is possible to travel to Tartu and Valga every day at 7:30 a.m., 3:45 p.m., and 6:45 p.m. Lux Express buses depart from Riga Airport to Tartu and Valga at 3 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.

“By the beginning of the summer, we are planning to launch a fourth connection between Tartu and Riga, in order to provide a connection with both Riga and Riga Airport with a reasonable frequency throughout the day. However, we cannot make long-term plans for the Tartu-Riga line at the moment. If the passenger train is launched, it is likely that we will have to close some departures again,” Lux Express board member Ingmar Roos said, referring to the Tartu-Riga train route planned to be opened in connection with Tartu’s European Capital of Culture title in 2024.
