75% of Latvians are planning to celebrate Christmas at home and to spend up to EUR 150 on Christmas dinner. This according to the SEB Bank, which commissioned a survey on the matter and told the LETA News Agency about its results.

As usual, most respondents prefer to spend the holiday with family or friends at home.  Only 4% will be travelling for the holiday, and 3% plan to celebrate Christmas at a restaurant.

Christmas at home is equally popular among all age groups, while travelling on Christmas is a bit more popular among respondents aged 50-59.

The SEB Bank financial literacy monitor, Linda Sablinska, says that the percentage of people who will try to spend no more than EUR 50 on their Christmas meal increased a bit to 21% in comparison to last year.

The survey also found that more people wanted to go to the forest to cut down their Christmas tree this year – 29% of respondents said so. One in five were planning to purchase a Christmas tree while another 8% will decorate a tree that is growing near their home.

One in four respondents prefer an artificial Christmas tree, while around 10% say that they will decorate their homes for the holiday without a Christmas tree at all.

The survey of 1,003 respondents aged 18-74 was carried out by Norstat in November.
