Estonia’s Health Insurance Fund expects its spending to reach nearly €2.7 billion next year, while its budget deficit is projected to fall to €44 million. The fund’s supervisory board approved the draft budget on Friday, clearing the way for it to enter state budget negotiations.

Healthcare investment is set to increase by around €90 million across the system, while the deficit is expected to almost halve from roughly €90 million this year. The longer-term objective is to bring the Health Insurance Fund’s budget gradually back into balance by 2030.

Social Affairs Minister Karmen Joller, who chairs the fund’s supervisory board, said the aim is to restore financial sustainability without compromising access to essential healthcare services.
