Dusseldorf (dpa) – Germany’s DHL has resumed delivering packages to the United States on behalf of corporate customers after a four-week pause due to new regulations, the logistics giant said on Tuesday.

Parcel deliveries to the US were suspended in August after Washington imposed new customs duties, scrapping a duty-free threshold for goods worth up to $800.

The move caused disruption to logistics companies, with the Geneva-based Universal Postal Union (UPU) saying the sending of mail came “to a near halt after the implementation of the new rules on 29 August 2025.”

But DHL said businesses can once again begin sending shipments across the Atlantic from Thursday, using the new “Postal Delivered Duty Paid” service for goods valued up to $800.

The service was previously available for goods shipping to the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway.

Businesses must “provide complete and accurate customs data, particularly the customs tariff number and country of origin for each individual item,” DHL said.

Private customers can continue to send goods declared as gifts with a value of up to $100 without facing additional duties.

But “these shipments will be monitored even more closely than before to prevent the misuse of private gift shipments for shipping commercial goods,” DHL warned.
