Flights from Lithuania to Chicago or New York possible in a few years – Bartkus

Transatlantic flights from Lithuania to North America are possible in four to five years, Simonas Bartkus, CEO of Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports, LTOU), the airport operator in Lithuania, has said.

“In the next four to five years, we could have a direct flight to one of these cities – Chicago or New York… The success of a commercial route is to some extent also determined by the flight distance itself. These cities are on the east coast of North America and could have shorter flights. Flights to those cities could be available sooner than to others,” he told the LRT Radio on Friday.

According to him, there are no obstacles to such flights already.

“In reality, there are no more legal or technical barriers to such flights today. We hope that the demand for these flights between Lithuania and North America will continue to grow,” Bartkus said.

He noted that the direct flights from Vilnius to Dubai, which were carried out last winter, would resume in October and would be permanent.

“The geography of flights has been growing steadily in recent years. This year is a record year in terms of geography,” Bartkus added.
