EuroBasket 2025: Latvia fall to Turkey, Lithuania open with a win

The 42nd edition of EuroBasket officially tipped off on 27 August 2025, with host nation Latvia and regional rivals Lithuania both starting their campaigns.

Latvia’s Setback in Riga

Latvia faced Turkey in their Group A opener at the Xiaomi Arena in Riga but fell short, losing 93–73. The visitors dominated from the start, with Cedi Osman scoring 20 points and Alperen Şengün nearly recording a triple-double.

Lithuania’s Strong Start in Finland

Lithuania opened their tournament in Tampere with an emphatic 94–70 victory over Great Britain. The Lithuanians also set a new EuroBasket single-game rebounding record with 57 boards. Jonas Valančiūnas and Ąžuolas Tubelis led the way, combining for 35 points and 16 rebounds.
