During the four-week “Give Tyres a Second Life” environmental campaign organised by AJ Power Recycling and 3R, more than 210 companies handed over 255.30 tonnes, or more than 25,500 used tyres, for recycling. The campaign organisers will continue accepting used tyres in September.

From 14 to 25 September, legal entities will be able to dispose of used passenger vehicle tyres free of charge at the 3R waste management facility at 4 Atlasa Street in Riga. To use this opportunity, companies must complete an online application form in advance and reserve a tyre drop-off time at www.3r.lv/akcija. Tyres will only be accepted at the pre-booked time. They will not be accepted without prior registration and electronic confirmation.

Only passenger vehicle tyres may be handed over during the campaign. Each legal entity may dispose of up to 500 tyres. Tyres from trucks, tractors and industrial machinery will not be accepted free of charge. The tyres must be clean and without rims; they must not contain leaves, mud, soil or plastic waste. Before handing over their tyres, companies are encouraged to review the campaign rules, which will be sent to the email address provided in the application form once the registration has been confirmed.

Passenger vehicle tyres will also be accepted free of charge from private individuals. During the campaign, up to four passenger vehicle tyres without rims may be handed over per car. Tyres from trucks, tractors and industrial machinery will not be accepted. Private individuals may bring their used tyres without prior booking on any working day until 25 September, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the 3R waste management facility at 4 Atlasa Street in Riga.

Large quantities of accumulated used tyres pose environmental and safety risks. Sending tyres for responsible recycling helps reduce their adverse environmental impact and allows their constituent materials to be reused. After collection, the tyres undergo pre-treatment, sorting and preparation for further recycling. Specialised recycling plants process the tyres into rubber granules used in the production of sports surfaces, mats and other products, as well as in construction, including road building.

Outside the campaign period, passenger vehicle tyres may be handed over for a fee at sorted-waste collection sites and other tyre collection points. These collection sites also accept lead-acid and other types of batteries, oil filters and lubricating oils. A list of the collection sites is available at https://ajpower.lv/laukumi.
