The City of Tartu and Finnair signed an agreement on Saturday for the Finnish airline to start flying between Tartu and Helsinki 12 times a week, beginning March 31.
The agreement is valid until Dec. 31, 2027, and during the contract period, the City of Tartu will pay Finnair a total of 3.2 million euros in compensation. The compensation for the next year’s three quarters is 640,607 euros, and from 2025 to 2027, it will be 854,143 euros annually.
On Sept. 29 of this year, the City of Tartu announced a public tender to find an airline to fulfill the public service obligation for regular flights between Tartu and Helsinki airports. Finnair Oyj was the sole bidder.
