Bertans officially joins BC Dubai

Latvian forward Davis Bertans has officially signed with Emirati basketball club Dubai, which will compete in the ABA League, the club announced on Tuesday.

“We are pleased to announce the signing of Davis Bertans, a player with an impressive NBA background,” the team announced on X. “He will be the final addition to our historic first season.”

The Dubai team was formed earlier this year and will play its first season in the Adriatic (ABA) League. In their first match, Dubai will host Crvena Zvezda Belgrade from Serbia on September 22.

Bertans’ contract with Dubai includes a clause for his possible return to the NBA.

In late August, Bertans turned down a contract offer from Real Madrid, hoping to sign a contract with an NBA club.

Bertans, 31, started last season with the Oklahoma City Thunder and was traded to the Charlotte Hornets in early February. He was waived by the Hornets in July.

Last season, the Latvian appeared in 43 games, averaging 6.7 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists. He had been playing in the NBA for eight seasons.

Before acquired by the Thunder, Bertans played for the Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs.
