Due to technical problems within the UK air traffic control service NATS, Latvian national airline airBaltic’s flight BT653 from Riga to London, which was scheduled to land at Gatwick Airport yesterday, was diverted to an alternative airport in Brussels, the company told LETA.

According to information published on Riga Airport’s website, flight BT653 departed for London at 15:40.

airBaltic explained that although the radar system has since been restored, the recovery of normal air traffic flow was still causing delays.

As reported, the technical issues within the NATS system disrupted flights across the UK on Wednesday.

A number of planes scheduled to land at UK airports were forced to circle in holding patterns or divert to other airports.
