Lithuanian businessman attended Trump inauguration

The majority owner and chairman of the Avia Solutions Group (ASG), Gediminas Ziemelis, attended the inauguration of US president Donald Trump on Monday, the global enterprise announced in a news release.

“The invitation symbolises our company’s success in strengthening ties with the United States and demonstrates that businesses from Lithuania can perform a significant role in the global arena,” the news release quoted Ziemelis as saying.

The group says that Ziemelis was invited to the inauguration because ASG has extensive co-operation with partners from the United States.

Back in 2021, the US-based investment companies Certares Management and Knighthead Capital Management invested EUR 300 million into ASG’s capital. Last year, Impact Investments from America became the group’s consultant on strategic development.

ASG has also ordered 80 Boeing 737 MAX airplanes from the US-based manufacturer, with deliveries expected to start in 2030.

Jovita Neliupsiene, the European Union’s ambassador to the United States, also attended Trump’s inauguration, but leaders from Lithuania and many other countries were not invited to the ceremony.

Trump was sworn in for an historic second term as US president on Monday.

ASG promotes itself as the world’s largest provider of ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance) services, operating a fleet of 221 aircraft on six continents. The group employs some 14,000 professionals and is the parent company to more than 250 subsidiaries.

Irish-registered ASG holds 11 Air Operator Certificates which allow it to operate flights in more than 60 countries.
