1,707 people from Ukraine have received a one-off employment benefit in Latvia, the Latvian Ministry of Welfare has announced.
EUR 1,194,900, or 85.3% of the allocated funding was devoted to these payments.
The ministry believes that the rest of the financing will be distributed later this month, and it has requested additional funds of EUR 420,000 This would be sufficient to pay benefits to some 600 individuals.
The point to this process is that Ukrainians who have found a job only receive their first wage after they have worked for a month, and so they are entitled to a onetime start-of-employment allowance that is equal to the minimum monthly wage.
Latvia’s Cabinet of Ministers is due to decide on the additional funding at a meeting on October 8.
