Major Baltic car dealers set up Baltic Sustainable Mobility Alliance

In order to promote the development of electric mobility and reach a level of at least 30 percent in electric mobility by 2028, the largest automotive importers in the Baltic countries have come together to form the Baltic Sustainable Mobility Alliance.

The alliance aims to bring together the largest car importers in the Baltics to promote and support cooperation among governments, local governments, businesses, and consumers on various issues related to sustainable mobility. Additionally, it seeks to collaborate with the EU organizations responsible for monitoring sustainable mobility and infrastructure.

Another important focus is to facilitate long-term changes necessary for creating and maintaining a sustainable mobility environment in the Baltic countries, the association said in a press release.

For example, the alliance plans to continue discussions with governments and stakeholders to implement a ten-year, long-term mobility greening  program in all three countries. Negotiations are already underway on a grants program for environmentally friendly cars for businesses, a grants program for cars with emissions of up to 130 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer, a car import policy, public procurement as a model for sustainable choices, and other actions.

In the area of consumer education, in parallel with the development of infrastructure availability, the aim is to reduce prejudices and myths about the charging of electric cars and their daily use. The association also plans to step up exchanges between experts and businesses to share best practices on topics such as the recycling of electric car batteries in the Baltics.

The alliance brings together Moller Baltic Import SE, Toyota Baltic AS, SIA Inchcape Motors Latvia, VEHO Baltics AS and Nordic Automotive Service OY, which represent carmakers such as Audi, Ford, Lexus, Mercedes Benz, Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The chairman of the board of the alliance is Ilze Grase-Kibilde, CEO of Moller Baltic Import.

Moller Baltic Import is the dealer for Volkswagen in the Baltics and Audi dealer in Latvia and Lithuania.
