A woman in Liepāja has lost more than €1,800 after falling victim to scammers posing as psychics on the social media platform TikTok. Despite repeated warnings and blocked transactions from her bank, the woman continued transferring money to the fraudsters. Latvian State Police have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.

According to police, the woman discovered an advertisement for psychic services on TikTok and filled out an online form. Shortly afterward, she received a phone call claiming that a clairvoyant could help solve her problems — but only if she immediately transferred €150.

Later, the supposed psychic informed the woman that her “problems were serious” and demanded an additional €1,800. The woman attempted to make the payment, but the bank intervened and cancelled the transaction.

However, once access to her online banking was restored, she transferred €900 to the scammers. When attempting to send the remaining €950, the bank blocked the payment once again.

Despite repeated warnings from the bank, the woman eventually found another way to transfer the money.

The scammers then demanded €7,000 more. At that point, the woman refused further cooperation and stopped answering calls. Soon afterward, she received another message claiming she could recover the €1,850 she had already paid — but only after transferring an additional €200.

She attempted this payment as well, but the transaction failed because the recipient had exceeded their receiving limit. The fraudsters continued demanding another €300–400 to “release” her money. Only then did the woman begin suspecting fraud and cut off all communication. The conversations reportedly took place in Russian.

Police emphasize that this is not an isolated case. Other residents have also lost money to scammers offering fake эзoteric or psychic services over the phone and online.

Authorities urge people to warn family members and friends about such scams.

Call your loved ones before the scammers do.
