Representatives of Luminor Bank informed LETA that 71 percent of the population in Latvia had encountered attempts of telephone fraud last year, referring to a survey conducted by the bank.
Last year, fraudulent phone calls were the most common type of fraud encountered by the majority of the population. At the same time, a third or 33 percent of respondents said that they had experienced fraud attempts in the form of emails, and 23 percent – through fraudulent text messages.
Social media platforms are relatively less frequent, with 12 percent of cases, and misleading online advertisements 8 percent of cases. Although fake investment offers remain one of the most common types of scams, only 10 percent of respondents said they had experienced this type of scam. At the same time, 17 percent of people say they have not experienced fraud attempts in the last year.
The survey also shows that people of all ages experience fraud attempts and the data do not differ significantly between age groups. For example, telephone fraud is most common among respondents aged 50-59 and among those aged 30-39 (74 percent).
The Luminor Bank survey was conducted in November 2025 in cooperation with the research agency Norstat, with a total of 1,004 respondents in Latvia aged between 18 and 74.
