Today, Tallinn will celebrate Estonia’s Restoration of Independence Day with its annual concert at Harjumägi, August 20th Square. The concert will feature performances by Anett and Valter Soosalu, accompanied by the Tallinn Police Orchestra under the direction of Riivo Jõgi. The mayor of Tallinn, Jevgeni Ossinovski, will also greet fellow citizens on the occasion.
“It is a great joy that the Independence Day concert at Harjumägi has become a beautiful tradition that brings us together to share, through music, the deep sense of unity that has kept us strong through the ages. This is a concert that unites generations and fills us with pride for our country and our people!” said Riivo Jõgi, Chief Conductor of the Tallinn Police Orchestra.
The concert will take place on 20 August at 14:00 at Harjumägi, August 20th Square, and is free for everyone. The program will include patriotic classics as well as selections from the soloists’ repertoire.
District governments will also organize events to mark the day. In Põhja-Tallinn, visitors are invited to Kopli rahvamaja (Community House) on 19 August at 16:00 for guided tours and a gardening workshop. That evening at 18:00, Lindakivi Cultural Center in Lasnamäe will host a festive concert featuring the ensemble Pritsu Brass.
On 20 August at 17:00, Mustamäe’s Männi Park will host a concert with Ott Lepland. In Pirita, Restoration of Independence Day will be celebrated alongside the TV Tower’s anniversary and a community family day starting at noon. Nõmme’s Vabaduse Park will feature a concert-singalong with Kalle Sepp & The Purple Gang at 14:00. Haabersti’s event will take place on 20 August at 15:00 at the Väike-Õismäe pond amphitheatre, featuring a performance by Ivo Linna.
