ECB cuts interest rates

The European Central Bank (ECB) on Thursday decided to lower interest rates by a further 25 basis points.

At a meeting in Frankfurt, the ECB Governing Council decided to cut the deposit facility rate to 2.25 percent, the main refinancing operations rate to 2.4 percent, and the marginal lending facility rate to 2.65 percent, the ECB said in a statement.

The new rates will take effect on April 23.
