49% of Latvians want pension of EUR 1,200-2,000

The Luminor Bank has told the LETA News Agency that a new survey has found that 49% of respondents in Latvia would like to receive a monthly pension between EUR 1,200 and EUR 2,000.  The current average pension in Latvia amounts to EUR 576.

30% of respondents in the survey said that they would make do with a pension between EUR 600 and 1,200.

Atis Krūmiņš is a retirement and pension expert at Luminor Bank, and he says the current system in Latvia is one in which it is possible to ensure the desired monthly pension if one has engaged in planning in a timely way – making contributions to the third level of the pension plan, investing in stocks or bonds, or choosing some other type of savings.

The expert adds that the survey was conducted in September and that people clearly have great expectations about their future pension, expecting it to be at least half of the amount which senior citizens currently received each month on average.

The Luminor Bank survey was conducted in September 24 by the Norstat Latvija research agency.  1,003 respondents aged 18-74 were surveyed.
