Drills aimed at ensuring crisis management, civil defence and anti-terrorist activities are due to take place in Vilnius on Tuesday.

Participants will train how to respond a large chemical fire while a terrorist attack is occurring simultaneously.

“The aim of these exercises is to assess and to improve interaction among state institutions, local authorities, emergency services and non-governmental organisations when responding to complex incidents that are caused by hybrid threats,” the Lithuanian Police Department said in a news release. “Particular attention will be focused on strengthening physical and other forms of security, particularly during international events when the risk of threats increases.”

The planned exercises will involve the Vilnius County Police, the ARAS anti-terrorism operations team, the Lithuanian Police Academy, the Fire and Rescue Department, emergency medical services, and the country’s Emergency Response Centre.
