During the meeting, Tsahkna said that Israel is an important and close partner for Estonia. “Today’s decision to open an embassy in Tallinn in the near future is a significant milestone that will take Estonian-Israeli relations to a new level,” Tsahkna said, referring to Israel’s decision to establish an embassy in Tallinn. He added that Estonia is highly interested in Israel’s expertise in civil defence and innovation. “Estonia is also happy to share its experience in the digital sphere, an area in which my Israeli colleague expressed great interest,” Tsahkna noted.

The foreign minister gave an overview of the security and foreign policy developments in our region. The discussion covered Russia’s war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and Israel’s support for Ukraine. “As frontline countries, we face similar security challenges,” Tsahkna noted. “That’s why it’s important that we are aligned in our commitment to common security.”

“Russia’s aggression in Ukraine is not merely a regional issue—its consequences extend far beyond Europe and have an impact on both the Middle East and the broader international order. We call on all democratic nations, including Israel, to provide Ukraine with all the support they can,” he added, highlighting Israel’s extensive experience in civil defence and early warning systems, which could be of critical help in protecting the civilian population in Ukraine.

On the topic of the Middle East, Tsahkna said that Iran’s support for Russia’s aggression is unacceptable and emphasised the need for a diplomatic approach regarding Iran to prevent further escalation in the region.

Tsahkna also stressed that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza requires urgent and unhindered access to humanitarian aid to protect civilians and alleviate suffering. “A sustainable future for both Israel and Palestine is essential—Estonia remains committed to the two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians,” he said.

“All hostages held by Hamas must be released, and I extend my heartfelt condolences to all their loved ones,” Tsahkna added.
