The Tallinn Education Department is allocating €196,000 to support youth summer camps during the summer school break.
Deputy Mayor of Tallinn, Aleksei Jašin, stated that this year, the Tallinn Education Department will support the participation of 8,000 children and young people in summer camps with a total of €196,000. “The summer holiday in Estonia is exceptionally long, and according to multiple studies, the academic development of children and young people from socio-economically less privileged families slows down significantly during this time. Tallinn supports youth development through summer camps, offering young people the opportunity to grow and learn in engaging programs within a safe environment. The city subsidizes each participant with €4 per day, making camps more accessible and ensuring summer holidays are both educational and beneficial for health,” said Jašin.
The supported youth camps are available to children and young people aged 7–19 who are registered residents of Tallinn according to the Population Register. The subsidy applies to overnight camps held outside of Tallinn’s administrative territory, with a minimum duration of six camp days per session.
The deadline for submitting applications, along with the required supporting documents, is March 15 (inclusive). More information about the support is available here.
The camps receiving support must have a valid operating license, and all camp counselors and directors must have the required qualifications. Until April 10, an online training course is available for first-time applicants or those renewing their qualification as camp counselors and directors. After completing the course, participants must pass an exam or submit continuing education documents to obtain or renew their camp counselor/instructor qualification. Registration for the April training is open until March 31 here.
