Ropazi Council approves Baltezers’ inclusion in Adazi Municipality

The Council of Ropazi Municipality on Wednesday approved the inclusion of Baltezer village in Adazi Municipality.

Although in the context of the administrative-territorial reform the original plan was to merge the entire Garkalne parish with the Adazi Municipality, today the Ropazai Council decided to split the territory of Garkalne by adding Baltezers village to Adazi Municipality, but keeping other areas around Baltezers, such as the wealthy villages of Priedkalne and Bukulti, in Ropazai Municipality.

Residents of Garkalne parish also took part in the Ropazi Council meeting and strongly objected to what they considered to be a misinterpretation of the data of a public survey. They also complained that the residents of Garkalne had not been sufficiently informed about the possibility to participate in the survey.

According to these residents, the opinion of the residents who voted should be taken into account when deciding on splitting up the territory of Garkalne.

Also before the council meeting, a letter from the residents of Baltezers was circulated, in which they called on the Ropazi municipal council to support the division of Garkalne.

The final decision on the division of the Garkalne parish will have to be taken by the Saeima.
