All planned activities under the project “Establishment of Electricity Supply and Charging Infrastructure in the Baltic States’ Airports in North Sea-Baltic CNC/TEN-T Corridor for the Transition to Environmentally Friendly Operations” (eAIR), co-financed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), have been finalized. This project was implemented in collaboration with Kaunas and Vilnius airports in Lithuania.
As part of the project, improvements to the electricity supply infrastructure at Riga Airport have been completed, including the optimization of the 10kV network and its transition to the 20kV network, the construction of a new, modern substation, the installation of a solar panel park in the technical area, and the establishment of 27 electric vehicle charging stations within the Airport’s technical area and on the apron.
Additionally, with the project’s support, a solar power station with a capacity of 348 kW has been installed on the roofs of the technical services building and the waste hangar at Riga Airport. A total of 758 solar panels have been installed, providing electricity to the Airport’s overall electrical network, including the newly established electric vehicle charging stations.
The implementation of project activities will continue until the project’s completion in November 2025 at Kaunas and Vilnius airports. These activities include the construction of charging stations for electric vehicles at the airports, the reconstruction of related electricity supply infrastructure, the modernization of mobile overhead power supply equipment, and the installation of fixed power supply equipment at Kaunas and Vilnius airports.
The project is co-financed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). The total co-financing from the EU’s “CEF 2 Transport – Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility – Zero Emissions” programme for the project is EUR 3.65 million, which constitutes 50 % of the total project costs. The amount allocated to Riga Airport is EUR 1.79 million, while “Lietuvos oro uostai” received EUR 1.85 million.
