Litgrid, Lithuania’s state-owned electricity transmission system operator, is seeking contractors to dismantle the remaining power transmission lines connecting the country with Kaliningrad and Belarus by the end of 2026, the company announced on Friday.
“By dismantling the last lines with Kaliningrad and Belarus, we are completing a historic phase of infrastructure transformation, which symbolizes our full integration into the electricity networks of continental Europe,” said Rokas Masiulis, CEO of Litgrid, in a statement.
In total, more than 182 kilometers of transmission lines and 544 pylons will be dismantled, including 12 lines with Belarus and six with Kaliningrad.
On February 8, the Baltic states disconnected from the Russian-controlled IPS/UPS electricity system, and on February 9, they successfully synchronized with the Continental European Synchronous Area, which supplies electricity to over 400 million customers across 26 countries.
